About :
- The International Congress of Ophthalmology is the oldest Congress of specialists among the medical science Congresses of the world. It celebrated its centenary in 1958 at Brussels, where it had been inaugurated in 1857.
- The Congress has held its previous meetings in the Capitals of Europe, Egypt, the United States and Canada. The XIX International Congress is meeting in India at the invitation of the All-India Ophthalmological Society and under the patronage of the Government of India. This will be the first session ever to be held in Asia. The International Association for the prevention of Blindness and the International Organisation against Trachoma, which constitute the wings of the Congress, will also meet during its session. The programme includes discussion of specialist papers, a scientific exhibition of Ophthalmological instruments, equipment and literature and screening of medical films. The session will last from December 3 to 7, 1962.
- Attended by nearly 2,000 eminent ophthalmologists from all over the world, the Congress will stimulate the progress of Ophthalmology in India, and generally in the countries of the East.
