About :
- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his whole life continued his non-stop struggle for the emancipation and independence of the Bengali (Bangalee) people of the East Pakistan (Bangladesh) from the exploitation and robbing of rights of West Pakistan. The language movement of 1952, the election of allied front of ’54, 6 points of ’66, mass uprising of ’69, the election of ’70 and the Great Liberation War of ’71 were conducted under the brave and dauntless leadership of Bangabandhu. For this reason he had to face many cases and to sacrifice his golden times of youth in prison.
- In its continuation the Agartala Conspiracy Case was filed in early 1968 implicating Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 34 other Bengali (Bangalee) civil servants and army, navy and air force officers and politicians for hatching a “plot” against the State of Pakistan. The case was officially called State VS. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and others, but is popularly known as Agartala Conspiracy Case as the main conspiracy was purported to have taken place in the Indian city of Agartala in Tripura State, where Bangabandhu’s associate met Indian military officials and political leaders.
- The then Ayub Khan Government resolved to frame charge against 35 people along with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman being the prime accused. Bangabandhu was shown arrested on January 18, while already in jail. On June 19, the trial of the accused began at Dhaka Kurmitola Cantonment under intense security and Scrutiny.
- The Agartala Conspiracy Case resulted in a nationwide student movement and mass upsurge demanding the withdrawal of the case and the release of all the accused including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. With continued pressure from the public, the Ayub Khan Government on February 22 was forced to withdraw the Agartala Conspiracy Case and release Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and all the accused. The case ultimately resulted in the fall of General Ayub Khan in 1969.
- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman left behind a perpetual legacy of his lifetime non-stop struggle, movement, imprisonment and sacrifice for the emancipation and independence of the people of Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh always cherish Bangabandhu’s legacy in their heart and mind with deep love and profound respect. The legacy of Bangabandhu will live on forever.
