About :

  • The Ministry of Culture, Government of India is organising India Art Architecture Design Biennale 2023, as its flagship programme to invigorate the cultural space & creative economy, with its first iteration at Red Fort, New Delhi (declared as a Cultural Space by Hon’ble PM in January 2020) from 8th-15th December 2023. This is in line with the government’s aim to develop & institutionalize a Global Cultural Initiative at par with International Biennales at Venice, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Sydney, Sharjah, Jeddah, and Art Fairs at Dubai, London, Basel and Design Week at Berlin.
  • The India Art Architecture Design Biennale 2023 (IAADB -23) will be the country’s unique endeavour with global & pan-India outreach, similar to other international biennales, art fairs and other such event. Fulfilling the mandate of Jan Bhagidari, IAADB will see the inclusion of students, emerging & established artists/architects/designers, folk & rural practitioners across genres & regions.
  • This mega event aims to invigorate the cultural & creative industries that contribute 3.1% of the global GDP and 6.2% of all employment, hires more people aged 15-29 years than any other sector. It will also initiate holistic dialogue & provide platform for practitioners & professionals in the fields of art, architecture, design and allied services/sectors and leverage the Arts for Global Cultural Diplomacy & Connect.
  • In this event, traditional, grassroot artisans as well as contemporary designers, curators & thought leaders, cutting across age, gender & genre lines will showcase their work and celebrate the best that our country has to offer in the fields of ancient, modern, contemporary and technology driven art, architecture and design.
  • The Red Fort, identified as the venue of the event, located in the heart of Delhi, is an iconic symbol of art, Architecture Design. 3 Barracks have been chosen for the exhibitions, while the lawns and spaces around the barracks will host workshops, art bazaar, cultural programmes, merchandise corner etc.
  • Each day of the week is built around a uniquely conceptualized theme which will be complemented by exclusively curated exhibitions for which 7 distinguished curators have been on-boarded. The exhibitions have been designed in both physical and digital forms for an immersive experience accompanied by interactive installations.
  • During the week long event a series of programs and interactive sessions on themes like Door of India, Gardens of India, Baolis of India, Temple Architecture of India, Architectural Wonders of Independent India, Indigenous Design and Women in Architecture Design will be organised.
  • Massive participation of designers, academicians and citizens has been visualised through panel discussions, workshops and art bazaar. Pavilions set up as part of Biennale to remain on display till 31st March 2024. In conjunction with the IAADB’s mandate for inclusivity, a Student Biennale is also being organised from the 9th of December at the Lalit Kala Akademi and will serve as a platform for emerging talent to showcase creativity and imagination.
  • The India Art Architecture Design Biennale 2023 is set to be a unique event that aims to mobilise the community of artists and designers by providing a platform for both established and emerging artists. It’s goal is to energize cultural and creative industries by fostering dialogue among practitioners in art, architecture, and design.
