About :

  • Ramjas College was founded in 1917 by Rai Kedar Nath, an eminent educationist and philanthropist in memory of his father, Lala Ramjas. This was one of the three colleges brought under the University of Delhi which was formed in 1922, apart from Hindu College and St. Stephens College. The college shifted to another area in 1924, now known as Anand Parbat where it was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. However, the college had to cede its campus to Allied forces during the 2nd world war. Eventually, the college was relocated to its current location in 1960 and the present building was inaugurated by the first President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad on January 17th 1951. This college has the distinction of having Dr. B. R. Ambedkar as the Chairman of its governing body. Through its vast and verdant campus the college provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Arts, Science and Commerce streams.
  • The college has state-of-the art infrastructure and highly acclaimed facility trained at leading universities in India and abroad. Various opportunities are provided to help students enhance their knowledge and skills in areas that are important for their all-round development. Ramjas is the first college in Delhi University to conceptualize and implement an integrated network connecting all departments and disciplines. Every member of the Ramjas community has access to free internet service, library information system, and the student information system. To overcome linguistic and cultural barriers, Ramjas has incorporated new language courses through the School of Foreign and Indian languages . Further, the college has distinguished itself in the International arena of education and research by initiating an academic exchange programme with premier Universities such as University of Copenhagen, University of Antwerp and Lahore University of Management Science, etc.
  • Ramjas College inaugurated a dedicated Research Centre with ‘Basic Research’ facilities for undergraduate students, particularly third year level students, and ‘Advanced Research’ facilities for Faculty.
  • As part of interventionist and pro-active initiative, the college has a Gender Forum and a Women’s Development Cell (WDC), which promote awareness and educational programmes to empower students as educated and active citizens.
  • The college has a vast collection of books, with over 100,000 titles, in its library. The College has 21 academic societies, all of which remain pro-active throughout the year. It is mandatory for departments and academic societies of the College to organize talks/workshops/seminars/symposia/screening of films, etc. in each term during the academic session.
  • The college has taken initiative in establishing four Centres of Excellence, viz. namely, (1) South Asia Centre, (2) Centre for Public Policy and Governance, (3) Centre for Media Convergence, (4) Centre for Multicultural Studies. Ramjas College is the first in South Asia to start a South Asian Students’ Unity Movement with students of Economics from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal and hosted the first conference in 2003.
  • ‘Centre for International education’ was established in 2003 under which the College signed MoUs with Denmark International Study Programme, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, University of Antwerp, Belgium, and Lahore University of Management Science (LUMS) Pakistan.
  • A pioneering landmark initiative of the College was the inauguration of a Knowledge Centre which has been serving as a hub for knowledge exchange at various levels. It has been the nodal centre for additional and supplementary academic incursions, and has helped students explore their specialised creative forays into unexplored conceptualisations.
  • In order to extend financial support to students the College has introduced a scheme where students can ‘work while studying’. The students are being engaged in the library and in data feeding sections of computers when required. The College also helps College students find part time jobs during the summer vacations. The Placement Cell helps students find employment in top corporations and organizations.
