- Born on Dec. 2, 1912 in Parasi of Nawal Parasi district of Nepal, Tanka Prasad Acharya has made historic contribution in the Nepalese political context. Acharya came into active politics since his early youth being obsessed by popular freedom and democracy struggle against the ruling Ranas.
- Termed as forerunner political organizer Acharya‘s Nepal Praja Parishad party holds a marathon record in democracy and multiparty break through. On this campaign four among his colleagues got executed by the despotic Ranas while he was commuted to life imprisonment for his caste status they revered for. The overthrow of Ranas in 1950 freed him, and in 1956 he was sworn in as the interim Prime Minister. During his 18 months Government tenure bureaucracy in Nepal got a legal status, the Planning Commission and the Nepal Rastra Bank were established and diplomatic friendship also got extended. Further in his period Nepal participated in the UN General Assembly which placed her on the forefront of global scene beyond the narrow confines of the past.
- Acharya dedicated his entire life to the cause of nationalism and integrity combined with democratic values and norms.
- He died on April 24, 1992.
