- The FDI was established in 1900 in order to facilitate the exchange of dentistry information and the advancement of dental health. Its members are drawn from the members of dentist associations in each country and individual dentists.
- The annual congress, which is held in a different country every autumn, discusses international cooperation activities and assistance to countries faced with difficulties in improving dental care by themselves.
- The 71st congress held in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time will take place in Japan in conjunction with the Meeting of the Japanese Association for Dental Science.
