About : 

  • Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave importance to the establishment of mosques and Islamic cultural centers and placed the Baitul Mukarram Mosque under the Islamic Foundation according to The Islamic Foundation Act, 1975. The dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to establish mosques and Islamic centers by declaring the Islamic Foundation Act on March 28, 1975, after 42 years, in 2017, his blessed daughter, Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, fulfilled the dream by taking initiatives to establish 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers in each district and upazila of Bangladesh and sets a unique example in the Muslim world. The current government’s 2014 election manifesto also promised to build one model mosque in each district and upazila. During the visit to the Ministry of Religious Affairs on the date 08-02-2015, the Honorable Prime Minister gave instructions to establish 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers in each district and upazila of Bangladesh to implement the said promise. After the proposal had sent accordingly, the project named “Establishing 560 model mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in Zila & Upazila of Bangladesh” approved in the ECNEC meeting held on date 25-04-2017 with total estimated cost of Taka 9062.41 crores (nine thousand sixty-two crore and forty-one lakhs) and project duration within the period April 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019. “Establishing 560 model mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in Zila & Upazila of Bangladesh” was fully funded by the government at a total estimated cost of Taka 8722.00 crores (eight thousand seven hundred and twenty two crores) period from April 2017 to December 2020 and approved as 1st amended for implementation during the period. On date 30-12-2020, the project in the ECNEC meeting held on 26-06-2018, the project “Establishing 560 model mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers” extended till date 30-06-2021 without cost increase. In the ECNEC meeting held on last 07-12-2021, The project of “Establishing 560 model mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in Zila & Upazila of Bangladesh” was fully funded by the government with a total estimated cost of Taka 9435.00 crores (nine thousand four hundred and thirty five crores) approved as 2nd amended for implementation from April 2017 up to June 2024. 564 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers will be constructed under this project.
  • On 05-04-2018, the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone for the construction of Model Mosque Islamic Cultural Center at 9 places in 8 divisions of the country through video conference.
  • The Honorable Prime Minister inaugurated 50 Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in first phase on 10 June 2021, 50 in the second phase on 16 January 2023, 50 Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in the Third phase on 16 March 2023 and 17 April 2023, another 50 Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in the fourth phase by video conference.
  • On the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr 2023, The Honorable Prime Minister wishes the countrymen Eid greetings. May Eid bring peace and prosperity to all. “Eid Mubarak”.
  • Brief Description of Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center:
    • Each model mosque and Islamic cultural center is being built on 43 decimal of the land in three categories. Among them, 4 storey at district and city corporation level, 3 storey at upazila level and 4 storey (ground floor empty) model mosques and Islamic cultural centers are being constructed in coastal areas. A total of 69 four-storied model mosques and Islamic cultural centers are being constructed in 64 district towns and 3 city corporations in A-category. 479 model mosques are being constructed at upazila level in B-category. 16 model mosques are being constructed in coastal areas in C-category. The mosques will have separate ablution and prayer rooms for men and women, imam training centers, shelters, public education centers, research centers, libraries, funeral arrangements, autism corners, e-corners, guest houses and accommodation for foreign tourists.
