- Throughout history, various types of leaders have emerged, yet the mention of Late Choudhary Wazir Mohd Hakla evokes the image of a profoundly sincere, hardworking, and dedicated figure. Not confined to the Gujjar community, he tirelessly advocated for the welfare of all regional communities. His legacy includes raising political awareness and educating remote populations about their rights and responsibilities as citizens of the nation.
- Choudhary Wazir Mohd Hakla, a resident of Village Bandichechian, Tehsil Haveli, District Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory, was born on 14 March 1915. He belonged to the Muslim Gujjar community. Choudhary Wazir Mohd Hakla, a prominent Gujjar leader, Scholar, Writer, Philosopher, and intellectual of Jammu & Kashmir did a lot of social work with dedication, sincerity, and honesty. He rendered services for the upliftment of the downtrodden sections of the society and for the noble cause of the poor strata of the region. He especially raised the issues pertaining to the Gujjar community not only in Jammu & Kashmir but in other parts of the country as well.
- He strengthened communal harmony among different communities. He promoted patriotism, communal harmony and the secular character of the country and played a vital role for the cause of the national integration.
- Choudhary Wazir Mohd Hakla has written a number of articles and research papers relating to the Gujjar History & Culture and Gojri language and also on difficulties & problems of the Gujjar Bakarwal tribe and they were published in the national and regional print media and in the available electronic media of his time.
- Choudhary Wazir Mohd Hakla played a vital role in developing the Gujjar Bakarwal community of Jammu & Kashmir educationally, socially, politically & economically. He always highlighted their problems and difficulties before the government. He worked to solve their problems and also worked for the promotion of the Gojri language being spoken by the Gujjar Bakarwal community of Jammu & Kashmir. He pioneered for the demand of granting Schedule Tribe status to Gujjars Bakarwals of Jammu & Kashmir in 1958 and also initiated a movement & worked to grant the Schedule Tribe status to the Gujjar Bakarwal community of Jammu & Kashmir.
- Choudhary Wazir Mohd Hakla defended India in wars with Pakistan during 1965 & 1971. He helped Indian Army in the hours of crisis and motivated the Muslim Gujjar Bakarwal Community of Jammu & Kashmir to cooperate with Indian Army and educated the Muslim Gujjar Bakarwal Community of Jammu & Kashmir to counter the Pakistani attackers during the war.
- While recognising the services of Choudhary Wazir Mohd Hakla, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Jain Gujjars of India unanimously honoured him with the title of “WAZIR–ULQAUM” (Leader of the Community) in all India level Gujjar Samelan held at Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi on 7th of January 1973. Choudhary Wazir Mohd Hakla died on 10 August 1977.
