- For the first time India is hosting the XV International Congress of Pediatrics in New Delhi. The Congress is being held at the invitation of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics under the aegis of the International Pediatric Association (IPA).
- The International Pediatric Association is a central organisation of Pediatric societies and associations representing 85 countries in the world. Its main objective is to promote cooperation among pediatricians of all countries and to encourage research and disseminate scientific knowledge in all fields relating to the care and health of children everywhere.
- Once every three years, IPA hold meetings in different parts of the world. In recent years, IPA held several seminars mostly in developing countries where the needs of children are most urgent.
- The Indian Academy of Pediatrics established in 1964 is the association of child health specialists in India. It has 2,000 members committed to the study and practice of pediatrics and improvement of child health.
