About :

  • The International Society of Soil Science (ISSS) is a world organisation with its membership open to all persons and institutions engaged in the study and application of Soil Science. The main objective of the ISSS is to foster research in all branches of Soil Science. The Society arranges Congresses and Conferences from time to time to achieve this.
  • The 12 International Congress of Soil Science is being held in New Delhi from 8 to 16 February 1982. This is the first time that such a conference is being held in an Asian country. India is a subcontinent with a wide range of climates and soils. It has almost all types of soils which are commonly met within the tropical, sub-tropical temperate, arid, semi-arid, humid and sub-humid climates. It is, therefore, only fair that the Congress is being held in India.
  • The Congress is being held under the auspices of the Indian Society of Soil Science. The main theme of this Congress is “Managing Soil Resources to Meet Challenge to Mankind”. During the conference, there would be discussion on the current states of soil research to focus attention on better utilisation of soil as a natural resource. It will also provide a general survey of soil problems and priorities for meeting the growing needs of the mankind.
