Siddharoodha Swami, a luminary in the realm of spiritual humanism, graced our sacred land of India, often likened to the pinnacle of spiritual enlightenment. India, a tapestry of diverse cultures and beliefs, cherishes the principle of unity in diversity, where reverence for the teachings of various spiritual leaders unites people across strata. In this fertile soil of spiritual wisdom, Siddharoodha Swami’s presence was akin to a fragrant flower spreading its divine essence far and wide.
Born to Gurushantappa and Devamallamma in the village of Chalakapur, Siddharoodha Swami embarked on his spiritual journey from a tender age. His quest led him to the revered Amareshwar Guru Gajadand Shivayogi, where he imbibed the essence of Advaita philosophy. He served him in four fold ways – intimate, body, place and good-will. He gained Guru’s Grace for having informed Subbayya Shastri about the features of Brahman. Gajadanda Swami blessed him by saying that he was not ordinary and he had come as Lord Shiva to uplift the devotees. He also told him that he had incarnated to show the right path to the mumukshus (intense seekers). He ordered him to begin his lifework of preaching advaita as Shree Siddharoodha Bharati. In return, Shree Siddharooha gave his Ishta-linga to his Guru as Guru dakshine. One, who has transcended the three ordinary states (waking, dream and deep sleep) and crossed the six enemies – desire, anger, fear, greed, arrogance and jealousy does not need linga saying thus to his Guru and taking his permission, he began his sojourns.
Blessed by his Guru, Siddharoodha Swami devoted his life to the upliftment of seekers, traversing the length and breadth of the country to disseminate his message of universal love and harmony. People, who were afflicted with sorrows and heavily loaded with the miseries of the worldly existence, took his darshan. Lakhs of people became his followers. Siddharoodha’s divine-lamp enlightened in the hearts of his devotees. Wherever Shree Siddharoodha went, there he made wonderful miracles.
Sadguru Siddharoodha Swami was a Great Saint, Philosopher, socio-religious revolutionary and who preached Universal Religion – Social Humanistic Philosophy, Peace and Harmony in Mankind. His mission was practical Adviata and vision was Spiritual Humanism. He finally came to Hubballi which is the home-town of the saints and sages. Shree Siddharoodha lived at the Dumageri stone platform in Hubballi, he preached Sri Nijaguna’s Shastra, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Upanishads, the Panchadashi and secret of the Brahma–Sootras. His teachings, rooted in the Upanishads & Bhagavad Gita, emphasized the omnipresence of divine light within every being, urging them to shed the veil of material attachment and realize their inherent divinity.
A beacon of socio-religious reform, Siddharoodha Swami actively participated in the freedom movement, hosting conferences at his ashram attended by luminaries like Lokmanya Tilak and Mahatma Gandhi as the Chief Guests in the year 1922 and 1924 respectively. His spiritual prowess attracted the attention of revered saints and mystics of his time, engaging in profound dialogues that enriched the spiritual landscape of the era.
Though he departed from his mortal coil, Siddharoodha Swami’s presence continues to resonate in the hearts of devotees. His samadhi at Hubballi remains a sanctuary of spiritual solace, where seekers from across the globe converge to seek his divine blessings. The Siddharoodha Math, overseen by a dedicated trust, serves as a bastion of Advaita philosophy, fostering communal harmony and humanitarian service. Siddharoodha Math Trust is a public trust functioning under the Principal District Judge.
Every year, during Ramnavami, Shivaratri, Shravana, Gurunatharoodha Punyaradhane religious programmes are held at Siddharoodha Math. During the Shivaratri Rathotsava around 5-6 lakhs of devotees, irrespective of Caste, Color or Creed, congregate and celebrate in a grand manner making it attain national and international fame.
Besides, Nirantar Anna-dasoha (Serving food to thousands of visiting pilgrims/devotees) and Gyandasoha (imparting knowledge) are the daily routine activities in the Math premises. Every Monday, there will be more than 10,000-15,000 devotees coming to the Math for Darshan to worship and seek divine blessings. Siddharoodha Math has been seen as a symbol of communal harmony & love for mankind.
