About :

  • The Scindia School is a pre-eminent centre of learning, producing global leaders with Indian ethos. The School was founded by HH Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia I in 1897 as the Sardars’ School for educating the sons of Jagirdars and Chieftains as the administrators of tomorrow.
  • In 1908, the Sardars’ School was shifted out of Phool Bagh into the Gwalior Fort. The visionary HH Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia transformed it into a modern public residential school. The Sardars’ School, renamed as the Scindia School opened its door to the public on July 1, 1933. The School was also the first school in the country to include IT in its curriculum in the year 1984. The first four boys who appeared for the CBSE Class XII computers exams were from the Fort. The computerization and technology leadership were possible under the astute leadership of HH Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia II. Today the School stands tall with its new age pedagogies, inculcating globalization and environmental awareness under the able guidance of the Board led by Maharaja Jyotiraditya Scindia.
  • Nestled in history of India’s greatest impregnable fort, the School is transforming the lives of its students to become ethical and righteous citizens in global world, yet remain firmly rooted in Indianness “Astachal” the daily practice of meditation, self-reflection and introspection to the setting sun, continues to bind the generations of Scindians. This evening assembly engulfs each student in deep contemplation and individual prayer for elevating the soul.
  • The value of service before self describes every student passing out from this hallowed portal. Two villages have been totally transformed by the School social service society, Sonsa and Nathukapura. The students go out with an enhanced sense of sensitivity towards the needy in the community and carry it through their lives as active givers in society.
  • Fittingly, in keeping with the historic setting, the School has also made history in many ways. It was a founder member of the Indian Public Schools Conference. The School is a member of the acclaimed prestigious international organization Round Square Conference involved in social service across the world. It also proved an inspiring influence for other Residential Schools to evolve and grow.
  • The Fort Biosphere converges to include in its aspirational curriculum – Eco park to sensitize the students about the richness and value of local flora and fauna to conserve the ecology. It has a mission to try to fill up its Taals (lakes) as a part of water conservation to be able to give back to city the water in some years.
  • This year, the Scindia School celebrates its 125th year anniversary, and hopes to reaffirm and revitalize its commitment to being a school of eminence for young Indians as they evolve in becoming responsible and committed citizens in service of the country and the world.
  • Scindians have grown to hold positions of responsibility in many arenas of human endeavour excelling in technology, infrastructure, the arts, media, industry, service, the armed forces, the civil services and continue to serve both at the national and international levels.
  • Academic excellence apart, the school champion’s games and sports as equally important elements of character building. All inter house matches are played with high intensity yet healthy rivalry to generate a sense of discipline and sportsman spirit. Activities unify the boys who come from different parts of the country having different mother tongues and diverse cultural backgrounds. They live together happily learning not only academics and curriculum, but also they develop understanding and appreciation for each other, they imbibe the virtues of adaptability and humaneness, a spirit of sharing love and affection for common humanity. All that becomes a binding force, which goes a long way in their life, which drives them, and propels them to act for the welfare of the society.
  • The stamp design is a beautiful se-tenant form, depicting the historic Madhav Pavilion, with an inset of the founder, overlooking the sprawling greens, which has been inspirational in shaping strong minds in a physically fit body to evolve as individuals with ethical character. The design also depicts the transformation journey of every Scindian who is a global citizen but firmly rooted in Indian Traditions.
