About :
- Spread across a sprawling 425-acre campus, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, serves as a self-sustained city of learning, defined by its 215 buildings and a rich ecosystem celebrated for its biodiversity. This academic campus hosts 58 departments and 16 specialized research centers, reflecting a deep-seated commitment to modern pedagogy. The campus is equipped with 188 ICT-enabled classrooms, state-of-the-art computer and GIS laboratories, and 76 seminar halls, all strategically designed to provide students with learning opportunities that align with the university’s rigorous objectives.
- Beyond academics, student life is carefully nurtured within a robust residential infrastructure. The university features 33 hostels — 23 for men and 10 for women — accommodating over 5,200 students, with two specifically dedicated to international scholars. Holistic well-being is prioritized through two Residential Health Centres and a wide range of amenities, including four guest houses, central banking facilities, an employment guidance bureau, and a comprehensive sports complex complete with a modern gymnasium.
- The true measure of the university lies in its unparalleled legacy of distinguished alumni. Nobel laureate Sir C.V. Raman was instrumental in laying the research foundations in Physics here, while the field of statistics reveres alumnus Prof. C.R. Rao, a world-renowned statistician. Other notable figures who have walked these halls include Dr. Neeli Bendapudi, President of Penn State University; Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, former Vice-President of India; and high-ranking global leaders at the FDA and Bank of America. The institution’s impact is further highlighted by its five Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardees and several Padma award recipients.
- Andhra University consistently prioritizes collaboration to enhance research and employability. In 2023, the university was awarded the prestigious Grade ‘A++’ with a score of 3.74 by NAAC, a mark of excellence. This reputation as a dynamic institution is bolstered by recent milestones, such as the establishment of “a-Hub,” a 4-star rated incubation center fostering 135 start-ups, and “Algorithm,” a digital zone featuring 25 smart classrooms.
- In recent years, the university has expanded its reach through industry-aligned initiatives like the AU-SIB School of International Business, the AU-NASSCOM Centre of Excellence in Machine Intelligence & IoT, and the “ELEMENT” pharma incubation hub. From marine farming skill centers to international Buddhist meditation spaces, the institution continues to bridge the gap between academic research and societal impact. As it celebrates its centenary, Andhra University is not merely resting on its laurels but is evolving with a focus on maintaining the highest standards in teaching and research, paving the way for another century of excellence.
