• A 60 yen postage stamp will be issued on March 16, 1983 to commemorate the opening of the National Museum of History and Folklore.
• The National Museum of History and Folklore (located at Jonai–cho, Sakura–shi, Chiba–ken) will open on March 16 (open to the public from March 18).
• This Museum was founded for the purpose of collecting, preserving and exhibition materials relevant to the history, archaeology and ethnology in Japan, conducting research activities into these fields and facilitating their use to researchers in universities, etc.
• It is not a museum which collects, preserves and exhibits mainly art objects and scientific specimens, but a museum relevant to Japanese history and culture. This is an exclusive museum of this kind in Japan and is operated by the Government.
