About : 

  • This memorial park was planned as a project to commemorate the 50th year of the Emperor’s reign. The Ministry of Construction had been continuing work since 1978 on the site of the former American military base at Tachikawa and the park will be opened on the 26th of October.
  • The park was planned around the theme “recovery of greenery and advancement of humanity” and will have public spaces and cultural facilities within its area of approximately 180 hectares.
  • The 50 hectares which was opened on this occasion include the Tachikawa Plaza, exhibition space, a botanical garden, open space, a parking area, a rest house and a cycling course.
