- Amsu Varma is one of the giants of Nepalese history. In one person he combined the qualities of warrior, diplomat, political reformer, patron of arts and literature, and benevolent ruler. Himself a Hindu, he welded together diverse social and religious groups and laid the foundation for the present day harmonious mixture of races and religions in Nepal. The marriage of his daughter Bhrikuti to Srong Tseng Gampo of Tibet cemented the centuries long friendship between Tibet and Nepal. Amsu Varma died in 640 A.D.
